CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT (“CPPD”)
Continuing Professional and Personal Development recognises the overlap between Personal and Professional Development. It is an ongoing lifelong process. CPPD indicates your level of commitment and expertise in your practice. It enhances your professionalism and highlights new skills you may need in order to improve your work in your field. It is quite clear that it is the Government’s intention to introduce legislation aimed at all complimentary practices that will require a minimum level of CPPD if an association is to be accepted as having professional status. Indeed it is quite possible that it will be illegal to practice without membership of an appropriate professional body. At the very least it is likely that professional status will be required to maintain insurance cover once this legislation is implemented.
All members will be required to complete 22 points in a year. You will be responsible for your own records. All members should set up a CPPD file in which information on all CPPD material is kept including verification of attendance e.g. certificates and receipts. The file should contain sufficient information about each activity that could, if required, be examined by an assessor or facilitator. This is important as a number of members will be randomly selected and be required to submit detailed information and records. At this point in time the level of supervision is under our control but we may find that the anticipated legislation imposes certain minimum requirements.
Differing amounts of CPPD points will be allocated against each of the attached activities. Up to 6.5 points of the Professional CPPD points can be gained through self-directed activities. Evidence must be put in a portfolio as indicated. Points can be mixed to make up the total value. The total points cannot be comprised of one single category. 22 CPPD points are required for each year. If you have more than 22 points in a year you can carry them over to the following year but only for that year. Further information on carry-over points is explained below.
The breakdown expectations for either Professional or Personal Development Fall into the following:
